The NOP Summer Coaching Session (SCS) 2024 began with the same enthusiasm as always, but this year it carried an extra spark of excitement. Held from July 18th to August 01st, the LUMS campus was filled with a lively energy as the session unfolded, offering new experiences, and creating lasting memories for everyone involved—from the eager participants to the resolute team managing the event.

This year, the NOP achieved a significant milestone by receiving close to 11,000 applications through the NOP Online Application System, now in its sixth year. This overwhelming response is a testament to the programme’s growing impact and reach. After a meticulous verification process, 800 participants from across Pakistan were invited to join the session, with 709 of them eagerly making their way to the LUMS campus.

To accommodate the influx of participants, a team of over 50 dedicated volunteers were mobilized a week before the session’s commencement. These volunteers, including both LUMS students and alumni, displayed unwavering commitment to ensuring the session’s smooth execution. Their responsibilities ranged from managing lab sessions and attendance to maintaining hostel discipline and overseeing various student activities, all while fostering a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.

Diverse Participation and Cultural Richness

Diverse Participation and Cultural Richness The Registration Day was a colorful affair, welcoming a diverse group of students from every corner of Pakistan. With 474 males and 237 females hailing from cities as varied as Zhob, Waziristan, Tharparkar, Usta Muhammad, Umerkot, Mardan, Quetta, Kasur, Skardu, Hunza, and beyond, the session truly encapsulated the geographical and cultural richness of the country. A remarkable 99% of these participants chose to board on campus, embracing the full LUMS experience.

The NOP’s commitment to inclusivity was evident once again this year, with a notable presence of students from minority communities and underrepresented regions. This diversity added an enriching layer to the session, as students from diverse backgrounds came together, shared experiences, and learned from one another.

Academic and Personal Growth

The 15-day immersive journey was packed with academic, mental, and physical growth opportunities. The curriculum, carefully designed to prepare students for the standardized examination required for LUMS admissions, included tailored segments in English, Math, Basic Sciences, and Life Skills. Additionally, classes in Critical Thinking, Presentation Skills, and Digital Literacy were introduced to enhance the students’ holistic development, equipping them with the tools needed for success in their academic pursuits.

The academic gameshow 'Challenge Your Talent' provided a fun and competitive twist to learning, while motivational talks from distinguished speakers offered valuable insights on self-discovery, resilience, and personal growth. These talks encouraged participants to embrace challenges and envision their future paths with confidence.

The experience extended far beyond the classroom. A vibrant array of extracurricular activities, organized in collaboration with student societies like SLUMS, DRAMALINE, and LUMS Music Society, brought the LUMS spirit to life. The introduction of Dance LUMS, a new addition this year, was met with enthusiasm and added a dynamic element to the programme.

Showcasing Talents and Building Camaraderie

The Sports Gala injected a healthy dose of physical activity into the session, allowing students to engage in friendly competition across various sports. The Drama and Music Night was another highlight, showcasing the participants’ artistic talents through captivating plays and soulful musical performances that resonated with the cultural diversity of Pakistan.

Acknowledging the Pillars of Success

The successful execution of the NOP Summer Coaching Session 2024 would not have been possible without the invaluable support of our stakeholders. Various administrative departments at LUMS—including Procurement, Housing, PDC, IST, Vigilance, Facilities & Engineering, Classroom Staff, Office of Finance, Medical Centre, General Administrative Services (GAS), Office of Admissions (OA), and Office of Financial Aid (OFA)—played pivotal roles. Their contributions ranged from managing logistics and ensuring security to warranting medical care and budget management.

A special mention must go to the Student Volunteers, the true backbone of the session. Their tireless efforts, dedication, and passion ensured that every participant had a smooth and enriching experience, making the entire session a memorable one for all involved.

Looking Forward

As the NOP Summer Coaching Session 2024 ends, we reflect on the incredible journey shared by all. The collaborative efforts of the volunteers, participants, and LUMS staff have paved the way for another successful session. The blend of academic coaching, skill-building, and extracurricular activities has not only laid the groundwork for LUMS applications but also equipped the participants with the confidence and skills to tackle future challenges head-on.

We are excited to see how the experiences and lessons from this session will inspire our participants to pursue their dreams with determination and resilience. The NOP team’s continued success in reaching out to students from Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Interior Sindh reaffirms our commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders across Pakistan.

With bright prospects ahead, we eagerly anticipate the achievements that our participants will accomplish in the years to come, carrying forward the spirit and lessons of the NOP Summer Coaching Session 2024.
