It is a challenge to do justice to the interests and achievements of Syed Babar Ali. A renowned industrialist, a benevolent philanthropist, visionary and a national patron of education, he is not an individual but an institution in his own person.
Thirty years ago, he was far-sighted enough to spot a gap in the society and through his broad vision, filled the void with a practical solution. This was the vision and the foundation for LUMS, an institution he envisioned to be a pinnacle of world-class academia, and he wanted to ensure that students from all over Pakistan regardless of their financial status, religion or caste would be able to pursue their academic goals. His demand and desire to reach out to the raw talent scattered across the country manifested in the form of extensive financial aid and the National Outreach Programme (NOP), an initiative close to his heart. His work, interest and continuous efforts have led to the growth and evolution of the programme, essentially spurring the phenomenal success of the graduates you come across in our Testimonials.
Those who have worked with LUMS and the NOP Centre, have always felt that words will fall short to express Syed Babar Ali's role in the NOP. He has motivated not only hundreds of students but has in essence infused them with the same passion as himself; to contribute to society in whatever way possible. NOP Scholars and students on financial aid who go out into the world and find ways to contribute to the betterment of their communities and their nation are an ode to his infallible determination to empower every segment of Pakistan. The aura he exudes motivates those who stand in his shadow and we have been touched nonetheless.
